About STFC

The Saugeen Track and Field Club is a registered non-profit organization which was formed in 1982. It is bound by a constitution and by-law and is dedicated to providing athletes in the area with an opportunity to excel at the world’s oldest sport, Track and Field. The Club is a regional organization which draws members from Bruce, Grey, Wellington and Huron counties. The Club currently operates out of two training bases, Port Elgin and Kincardine. Presently, we have over 100 athletes involved in the various programs offered during the year including the Senior Club (13 years of age or older), the Junior Programsal programs (8 to 12 years of age), the Master’s Program and the Running Club. The Saugeen Track and Field Club is affiliated with Athletics Canada, the Ontario Track and Field Association, the Ontario Minor Track Association and Sport Disabled Ontario. Our athletes compete at all levels, from local, regional and provincial to national and international levels.

13 Saugeen athletes have qualified for National teams, the most notable being Donalda Duprey, who represented our track club and Canada at the 1992 summer Olympics in Barcelona. This past year saw many accomplishments for STFC members. Will McComb, one of the team’s members, qualified for the National Junior XC Team. He competed at the World XC Championships in Ireland and was the top Canadian finisher. This summer, several club members qualified to compete at the Canadian Senior Track and Field Championships in Winnipeg and the Canadian Junior Championships in Burnaby B.C. Club members competing at National Juniors brought home 10 medals, the most of any club i n the country. Sjaan Gerth, Liam Card, Adam Kunkel and Arthur Turland were also selected to compete for the National Team at the Pan Am Junior Games in Tampa.

Regardless of the level an athlete is currently at, the purpose of the Club is to provide a setting where they can:

  1. Be provided with individual coaching and training programs.
  2. Be given administrative support.
  3. Better their skill level through training.
  4. Be given competitive opportunities at all ability levels where entry standards are not required. Their entry fees are covered by club membership and they will receive financial assistance to designated competitions throughout the year.
  5. Be given the opportunity to travel, interact with their peers, meet new people and most importantly, HAVE FUN !!
