Junior Track and Field Program
The Saugeen Track & Field Club is one of Canada's preeminent track and field organizations; consistently ranked among the top track and field clubs in the Country. The Club has produced three Olympians, two athletes that have won World Championship Medals, athletes that have won 82 National Championship medals, over 1600 Provincial titles and 32 athletics that have earned athletic scholarships to US Universities. In addition, the Club's coaching staff has achieved national acclaim including numerous selections as coaches for national teams at international events.
The Club organizes a junior development program (from which we have developed many of our most successful athletes) targeted at youth in grades 6 through 8. Unlike years past, this year the program is moving away from a general physical strength and cardiovascular conditioning program to one which will focus upon developing specific skills, strength and fitness necessary for success in one or more track & field events. Depending upon the interests of your child, the intention is that your child will focus on one or more specific disciplines over the summer program with support from our award winning coaching staff.
An overview of the program is set out below:
Location: Track at Saugeen District Secondary School
Time: 6:30 – 8:00 pm (Tuesday and Thursday)
When: May 3, 2011 to July 19, 2011
The cost of the program is $145 for which your child will receive:
If athletes wish to attend other meets, the Club will register the athlete but the athlete will be required to pay entry fees.

Junior Cross Country Program
Young athletes coming from any sport background in Grades 6 through 8 will benefit greatly from the Saugeen Track and Field Club Junior Cross-Country Program. Age-specific programs will focus on cardiovascular conditioning and progression of the fundamental motor skills required for development not only in the field of cross-country running but also as a base for a wide variety of other sports. Qualified coaches will tailor practices to meet individual needs where required and assist their athletes in goal-setting in order to help them reach their full potential. This program is also a great way to keep its participants active leading into the winter season and winter sports, along with the added possibility of continued training and indoor track and field competition as seen fit by the coaching staff.
The program will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Saugeen Bluffs Conservation Area. Practices will begin in the second week of September and end with the Minor Track Association Cross-Country Championships. Other competitive opportunities will be provided by the coaches and may include races such as those found on the fixtures list at following site: http://minortrack.netfirms.com/ (click on FIXTURES).
Registration dates and locations are TBA. The cost is $145.00 and this includes:

Senior Club
The Senior Club is for athletes ages 13 and up and operates in year-round individual and group training programs. While the junior program is aimed at developing a wide variety of motor skills and acts as a base for enhancing sport performance in a number of areas, entry into the senior club begins to build on the athlete’s natural talent and refines training to augment that given aptitude. Coaching and training programs are provided in all track and field disciplines as well as cross-country and road racing. Once an area of talent has been identified by the senior coaching staff, athletes are assigned to a specific training group which trains under one or more coaches in that area of specialty. From here on an athlete is able to progress within his/her specific discipline(s) under the guidance of his/her coach in order to allow him/her the best opportunity to reach his/her maximum potential. Competition takes place in both indoor (November to March) and outdoor seasons (April to August), as well as cross-county season (September to November) for those groups that this applies to. Training intensity, technical demands and competitions will increase with the prepared capacity of the athlete. Even beyond high school-age the club continues to provide administrative support, financial assistance, and access to coaching and training for those aspiring to succeed at provincial, national, or international levels and who want to remain affiliated with the club.
Senior Club practices typically take place Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30pm and occasionally on weekends where competitions are not planned. Practice days and times may change for specific event groups as warranted by the coach or the competition schedule. Practices take place at the Saugeen District Secondary School track throughout the outdoor season, and within the gymnasium at either Saugeen District Secondary School or Port Elgin Saugeen Central School during the winter months. For those in the cross-country program practices are run out of the Saugeen Bluffs Conservation Area.
The cost for a full year-round STFC membership is $500.00 and includes:

Masters Club
The Masters program allows masters athletes (age 30 or older) to train with the senior club and connect with other like-aged athletes in the area who have a similar passion for the sport of track and field, road racing, or cross-country running. Competitive opportunities are available with the senior club or in masters-specific meets and events. A master’s membership includes the same basic criteria as that of a full club membership: entries paid by STFC to all meets sanctioned by STFC, coaching by NCCP certified coaches (2-3 sessions per week), $10.00 registration fee paid by STFC per road race, seasonal and year-end Club Newsletter and annual awards reception, and registration with the Ontario Masters Track and Field Association.
