About STFC

The Saugeen Track and Field Club is a registered non-profit organization which was formed in 1982. It is bound by a constitution and by-law and is dedicated to providing athletes in the area with an opportunity to excel at the world’s oldest sport, Track and Field. The Club is a regional organization which draws members from Bruce, Grey, Wellington and Huron counties. The Club’s senior program currently operates out of one main training base in Port Elgin, while training bases for the junior program are run out of Port Elgin and Walkerton. Presently, we have over 100 athletes involved in the various programs offered during the year including the Senior Club (13 years of age or older), the Junior Development Programs (8 to 12 years of age), the Master’s Program and the Running Club. The Saugeen Track and Field Club is affiliated with Athletics Canada, Athletics Ontario, the Ontario Minor Track Association and Sport Disabled Ontario. Our athletes compete at all levels, from local, regional, and provincial to national and international levels.

The Saugeen Track and Field Club is consistently ranked among the top 20 clubs in Ontario, with more than 120 clubs in Ontario alone.  22 STFC athletes have been named to national teams, 3 of which have gone on to compete at the Olympic Games. Most notably is STFC alumnus Donalda Duprey, who represented our track club and Canada at the 1992 summer Olympics in Barcelona.  And with club members winning more than 1600 provincial medals, 73 national championship medals, and 2 world championship medals, as well as 3 coaches with national and international experience, it is plain to see that everything adds up to a quality program which benefits every single one of its athletes.
Regardless of the level an athlete is currently at, the purpose of the Club is to provide a setting where they can:

  1. Be provided with individual coaching and training programs.
  2. Be given administrative support.
  3. Better their skill level through training.
  4. Be given competitive opportunities at all ability levels where entry standards are not required. Their entry fees are covered by club membership and they will receive financial assistance to designated competitions throughout the year.

Be given the opportunity to travel, interact with their peers, meet new people and most importantly, HAVE FUN!!!

Experience

Personal Bests

A significant portion of the Junior Club members go on to join the Senior Club, usually at age 13. The focus of the program is event specialization, goal setting, and dedication to sport. The Senior Program also continues to focus on sportsmanship, a healthy attitude towards competition, personal best efforts and supporting teammates.

A Healthy Lifestyle

The Saugeen Track Club encourages a healthy lifestyle and provides an environment free of alcohol, tobacco and drugs. Coaches reinforce the importance of obtaining a balance between academics, athletics and social time.

Mutual Support

Throughout all stages of the club, athletes can count on support from their coaches and fellow athletes. The club provides an environment in which everyone is accepted and encouraged. Since success is measured by personal improvement, each athlete is recognized for his or her accomplishments.

Dreams and Dedication

The club provides a place for both recreational and elite athletes to train together, and our athletes are successful on a variety of levels, from personal fitness goals to the National and Olympic levels. They also apply the dedication, determination and goal-setting skills they’ve learned through athletics to succeed in other areas of life. The Saugeen Track Club is a life experience which produces great athletes and well-rounded individuals
