STFC member Kurt Benninger was third in the Falmouth
Mile with a sub 4:00 minute mile and personal best of
3:56.99 on Saturday, August 9th, 2008. See website for

Wins 6 Medals at the National Youth/Legion Championships
Jordan Collison,
Rita Rudell, Kevin
Bowman, Alex Pilar,
and Mat West travelled to Sherbrooke
to compete in the National Youth/Legion Championships on
Aug.1-3. Each of the athletes won a medal at the championships!
Winning GOLD
were Pilar in the 17&U
hammer throw-55.65m, West in
the 15&U high jump-1.90m (ties PB/age class record),
Bowman in the 15&U javelin
throw-58.56m setting a new STFC age class record and a new
personal best, and Rudell in
the 17&U heptathlon with a total of 4343 points.
Bowman also
won a SILVER medal in the shot
put with a throw of 14.37m. Collison
crossed the finish line in the 2k steeple chase in 6:09.88
to win the BRONZE medal running
a personal best time and setting a new STFC age class record.

STFC members Brad Millar

been selected to Team Ontario which will compete at the
Canadian Espoir Championships in Ottawa from Aug. 15-17th.

OTFA Bantam/Midget/Youth
Championships: STFC Finishes 4th
Congratulations to STFC athletes who travelled to Toronto
Aug. 1-3 to compete in the Provincial Bantam/Midget/Youth
Championsips. STFC won a total of 19 medals at the championships
and as a team are ranked 4th in the province. Way to go
Saugeen!

Kevin Bowman
broke the provincial record in the midget boys javelin
throw-56.22m! In the youth boys competition Alex
Pilar's hammer throw of 56.77m currently ranks
him 1st in Canada in the event (5k hammer). Special congrats
to Jordan Collison. Liz Hodgson,
Alex Morrow, Kevin Bowman and
Alex Pilar on their age class records.

National Junior Day
3 Results: Collison
Finishes 7th in Steeple Chase
In the final day of competition at the National Junior Championships
STFC member Jordan Collison
ran to a 7th place finish in the 3km steeple chase event
with a personal best time of 9:47.19. This time is also
a new STFC age class (17 year old) record.

National Junior Day
2 Results:
Rudell Wins Bronze in Heptathlon!!
Congratulations to Rita Rudell
who won the bronze medal in the women's heptathlon with
a total of 4484 points. Rita finished off the heptatlon
today with the javelin (7th-24.69m), 800m (3rd-2:28.86),
and the long jump (9th-4.53m).

Caitlyn MacMillan finished
21st overall in the 400mH prelims with a time of 1:07.48
failing to advance to the finals.
Tomorrow will be the last day of competition. STFC member
Jordan Collison will compete
in the 3k steeple event.

1 Results: Pilar
7th in Men's Hammer Throw
STFC member
Rita Rudell is
currently sitting in 2nd place with 2965 points in the
women's heptathlon event after day 1of National Junior
Championships in Abbotsford, BC. Rita won
the 100mH (14.67) and shot put (10.04m), finished 2nd
in the high jump (1.65m) and third in the 200m (26.52).
Alex Pilar
finished
7th in
the men's hammer throw (44.34m).
Jordan Collison
ran 4:06.83 in 1500m heats to finish
15th failing to qualify for the final.
Competing
today, July 26th, are Rita Rudell--completing her heptatlon,
and Caitlyn MacMillan--300mH.

Breaks Another Age Class Record
STFC distance athletes travelled to London
on July 23rd to take part in the final UWO twilight meet
of the season. Cheyenne Hunter
broke the 14&U age class record in the 800m running
a personal best time of 2:18.63.
The previous record was 2:21.80.

Personal best times were also achieved by
Lizz Hodgson 1500m- 4:57.44,
Jan-Louis Henning 1500m-4:23.71,
and Josolyn Weir 1500m- 5:44.79.

Bowman Breaks
Provincial Record in the Hammer Throw
Kevin Bowman threw the 4k hammer 59.87m
on July 20th in London at the Southwestern Ontario Throws
Series Meet and set a new Provincial
record!!! The previous provincial record was 59.72m.

Kevin also won the shot put (13.78m) and
discus throw (45.34m) events.

| Provincial
Legion Results: Rudell Breaks Provincial Record in Heptathlon
SFTC athletes travelled to Kitchener on July 17-18 to take
part in the Provincial Legion competition.
Rita Rudell broke
the provincial record in the Girls U17 Heptathlon while
also winning the event. Rita won 6 out of the 7 events in
the heptathlon to total 4597 points. She also set 3 PB's
during the competition in the javelin (25.00m), the shot
put (10.68m) and tied her personal best in the high jump
(1.73m).

Alex Pilar,
Kevin Bowman, and Mat
West also were medalists at the Provinicial Legion
Championships. In the boys U15 catergory Mat
West was the gold medalist in the high jump (1.90m)
and the bronze medalist in the discus throw ( 42.96m). Also
in U15 boys Kevin Bowman was
the silver medalist in the shot put (14.39m) and the javelin
throw (53.00m). In the U17 boys catergory Bowman
also won the gold medal in the hammer throw (51.05m). Alex
Pilar won a silver medal in the U17 boys hammer throw
(48.46m) and a bronze medal in the discus throw (43.38m).

On July 20th in Heusden, Belgium Kurt Benninger
finished second in the 1500m race with an outstanding time
of 3:38.03. This is a new personal best time for Kurt and

Athletes Compete at the Olympic Trials
5 athletes represented STFC at the Canadian
Olympic Trials in Windsor on July 3-6.
Congratulations to Arthur
Turland and Brad Millar
who were both medalists at the championships. Arthur was
the silver medalist in the discus with a throw of 55.45m
and Brad was the bronze medalist in the hammer with a personal
best and club record throw of 62.71m.
Kurt Benninger
placed 4th in a very strong field of the 1500m with a time
of 3:40.56.
Junior athlete Rita
Rudell finished 6th in the heptathlon with 4512 points
and jumped 1.69m in the high jump to finish 8th.
STFC thoughts are with paralympic athlete
Rick Carr as he begins the
road to recovery after a fall in the T11 200m heat which
left him with a broken femur and clavicle.

London Throws Challenge
Results
Congratulations to all the STFC throwers
who took part in the HH/PIB Throws Challenge on June 28th
in London. Kevin Bowman threw
the 4k hammer 54.57m to establish a new STFC age class
record. Alex Pilar surpassed
the national junior qualifying standard in the hammer
with a throw of 45.30m (6k). Brad
Millar and Arthur Turland
both posted top 3 finishes in their respective events
and will be competing at the Olympic Trials next weekend!

Shine at OTFA Jr/SR Champs
Congratulations to Brad Millar
and Arthur Turland who turned
in top performances at the Ontario Senior & Junior
Championships in Ottawa from June 20-22. Arthur won gold
in the senior men's discus with a throw of 54.92m. Brad
was the silver medallist in the hammer throw with a heave
of 55.34m only 13cm shy of first place. Both athletes
will be competing in the Olympic Trials on July 3-6 in
Windsor.

Kurt Benninger set a new STFC record at the Harry Jerome
Classic in Vancouver on June 21st in the Invitational 1500m.
His new personal best time of 3:38.54 is under the Olympic
qualifying B standard of 3:39.00. Kurt will be competing

at the qualifier. Josh placed 2nd in the hammer throw with

Kurt Benninger finished

Jordan Collison set a personal best time in the men's 1500m

Wins 6 Medals at OFSAA!!!
Congratulations to STFC athletes Rita Rudell,
Erika French, Kevin Bowman, Mat West, and Caitlyn MacMillan
who travelled to Hamilton on June 5th-7th to compete in
the OFSAA Track and Field Championships.
West, Bowman, French, and MacMillan
all medalled at the championships. West won a silver
medal in the midget boys high jump (1.84m) and a bronze
in the discus (44.85m) Bowman won two silver medals in the
midget boys shot put (14.41m) and the discus (47.94m). He
also placed 5th in the javelin with a toss of 48 meters.
MacMillan was the silver medallist in the junior girls 300mH
with a time of 45 seconds. French cleared 1.61m in the junior
girls high jump to take home the bronze. Rita Rudell cleared
1.63m in the senior girls high jump placing 4th, and finished
fifth in the 100mH with a time of 15.31 seconds.

ran in the Huron Shore Run on June 7th to benefit the Southampton

Carr Sets Canadian and World Record in the T11 High Jump
On May 25, 2008 at the Regional Summer Games in London,
Rick Carr cleared 1.60m in the high jump setting a new Candian
and World Record! Rick competed in the T11 catergory ;athletes
in the T11 category are totally blind. Rick is training
hard to try and qualify for the 2008 Paralympic Games in
Beijing, China. Go Ricky!
