STFC Wins 18 Medals at Provincial Track and Field Championships

The Saugeen Track and Field Club came home with 18 medals won at the Athletics Ontario Bantam/Midget/Youth Track and Field Championships held at the TD Waterhouse Stadium in London, Ontario from July 24-25. Of these medal winners, one athlete stood out above the rest.  Novice STFC athlete Harrison Williams of Port Elgin won 6 medals – 4 gold and 2 silver – in the Bantam Boys division at the provincial championships.  That’s a medal for every single event in which he competed in his first season of competition. Harrison won the long jump (5.26m), shot put (13.29m), discus throw (28.52m), and javelin (39.20m), and placed second in both the 80m dash (10.22) and the 150m dash (18.68).  In the Bantam Girls Division, Lilly Starling of Walkerton put up another outstanding performance.  Lilly was a double gold medalist in the discus (22.12m) and javelin (24.63m) events, and placed 4th in the shot put (7.77m).  Lilly also ran the anchor leg on the STFC Bantam Girl’s 4x100m relay team, and along with teammates Kaitlyn Maskell (Hanover), Taylor Carr (Port Elgin), and Jessie Nusselder (Paisley), sprinted to a bronze medal finish in a time of 1:01.18. Cheyenne Hunter of Tiverton was another double medalist this past weekend, running to two bronze medals in the both the 800m and 1500m events with times of 2:16.91 and 4:44.53 respectively.
